Waive

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

Full-time main campus undergraduate, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS), and School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM) students are required to carry a health insurance plan that provides coverage while in the state of North Carolina. Students must either submit a waiver with proof of existing coverage or enroll in the student health insurance plan each academic year. 

  1. International students are required to enroll in the student insurance plan.
  2. Failure to submit an approved waiver by the deadline will result in default enrollment in the student insurance plan.
  3. No waivers will be accepted once the portal has closed.

Acceptable plans:

  1. Employer-provided health insurance
  2. Marketplace Plans
  3. North Carolina Medicaid
  4. Military/TRICARE
  5. Healthsharing plans

Unacceptable Plans:

  1. Out-of-State Medicaid
